22.5% of East Dulwich voters chose Claire Empson in the local council elections on May 3rd

WEP Southwark

As many of you may already know, Daisy Lets & Sales’ own Claire Empson was in the running for a seat representing Goose Green in Southwark council’s elections on May 3rd.
As a founding member of the Women’s Equality Party, Claire wished to bring the party’s objectives for equality across all areas of society including, pay, parenting, healthcare and education into the aims of the local council.
Whilst Claire did not win one of the three seats on the council, she was still pleased with the results. Almost one in four voters in Goose Green voted for Claire and the WEP (22.5%). Claire beat all of the Conservative and Green candidates and one of the Liberal Democrat candidates.
Discussing the results, Claire said;
“I wanted to get more involved with my local community and help those like me that don’t feel represented by the traditional parties and ‘old school’ politics.

Standing as a candidate for WEP I helped to raise awareness of many national and local issues such as the high level of domestic violence in Southwark and cuts affecting women’s services.

I’d never been motivated to be involved in politics before joining WEP in 2015 as a founder member and relish that we are doing things differently. Campaigning has been hard work, freezing at times but fun! Having a team of like-minded, passionate individuals working together with a common goal has been inspiring and the level of support we have been shown locally is humbling. An experience I won’t forget in a hurry!”
